MCP (Model Context Protocol)

Open standard for connecting language models to external tools and data sources via a JSON-RPC interface.

MCP is an Anthropic-originated specification (now multi-vendor) for how agents discover and invoke tools. An MCP server exposes a set of tools; an agent acts as an MCP client. In 2026, MCP is the dominant interop standard — nearly every major self-hosted agent supports it.
