OpenClaw started as a personal project under the name Clawdbot and went viral after its 1.0 launch. By January 2026 it was on roughly 135,000 machines. After the security crisis of January-February 2026 (CVE-2026-25253 and 511 other vulnerabilities), the project was transferred to a Linux Foundation-hosted foundation. The 2026.4+ line is significantly more secure than the original launch.
