Verdict
A Mac mini is a quiet always-on host for NanoClaw: each agent runs in its own Docker container through Docker Desktop, and Claude does the reasoning at Anthropic through the Claude Agent SDK. The Mac is one host among several: NanoClaw runs the same way on Linux and on Windows through WSL2. Until October 2026 this page called it a macOS-only agent installed from a .pkg and sandboxed in Apple containers; its README says Docker containers on macOS, Linux and WSL2.
Setup notes
Install Docker Desktop, then git clone https://github.com/nanocoai/nanoclaw.git and run bash nanoclaw.sh. The script installs Node and pnpm if they are missing, registers your Anthropic credential with a credential gateway, builds the agent container and pairs your first channel. Claude Code is needed for /customize and for the /add-<channel> skills.
Performance
Network-bound for LLM calls. Apple gives 4 W idle and 65 W maximum for the Mac mini M4.
What breaks
- Running without Docker: the agent containers need it
- Agents cut off from the internet out of the box: the network lockdown is off by default
