NanoClaw on MacBook Air M3 / M4

Verdict

NanoClaw on a fanless MacBook Air with 24 GB unified memory is the most portable serious self-hosted AI setup in 2026. Silent operation, full battery day on light agent workloads, Claude-tier capability via Anthropic API. Trade-off: Air thermals throttle under sustained max load — fine for personal use, marginal for always-on hosting.

Setup notes

Same as Mac Mini setup. Configure Apple Energy Saver to never sleep when on power if you want background agent activity.

Performance

Battery: ~9-11 hours light agent use. Plugged in: comparable to Mac Mini. Sustained heavy LLM-callback load: thermal throttle after ~20 minutes.

What breaks

  • Always-on hosting (laptop != server)
  • Sustained heavy workload
