MCP server

Process that exposes a set of tools to MCP-compatible AI agents over a JSON-RPC interface.

An MCP server is the inverse of an MCP client (the agent). It declares tools an agent can invoke. In 2026, the typical pocket AI setup runs a primary agent + several MCP servers, each exposing a focused set of tools (filesystem, calendar, GPIO, sensor reads). The protocol allows distributing tool execution across multiple hosts.
